This recent book on the war against Japan is currently £25 in Waterstone's. I just bought it for £4.99p in Publishers Books Clearance-discount books. bargain or what? Len
Always great when you can obtain a good book at a fraction of the original cost. Seems that you were lucky in being in the right place at the right time-nice one! Tom
About once a fortnight or so I take a wander around the bargain basement book stores. It is amazing what turns up there. For £2.99p I also picked up a new book on Lloyd George and Winston Churchill which should be good for my pupils' studies on both the 'New Liberals' and Churchill as a wartime PM. My attention is immediately grabbed by the quote from Chamberlain that 'L. G. was born a cad and never forgot it; Winston was born a gentleman and never remembered it'. Great stuff. Len
I have had a paper back copy on my shelves for years and have just read it for the second time. I note that on this thread there is no comment on the content of the book. I thought it was good, in particular the chapters about little known (at least to me) aspects of that huge campaign. such as the landings on the Philippines and the Russian attacks following their declaration of war.
