New CWGC Commemorations 20th February 2021

    CWGC added the following casualties to the WW2 War Dead Roll today.

    The following were In From the Cold Project cases (Volunteer: Terry Cawood)

    All were members of the Merchant Navy who died when their ship was sunk by a submarine.

    S.S. Harrier sunk 07.06.43 by U-181 off Dar-es-Salaam
    All are commemorated on Tower Hill Memorial, London

    S.S. Columbine sunk 16.06.44 by U-198 off Angola
    Three of the following died in the sinking and the remainder whilst adrift in a lifeboat in the following four days.
    Most are commemorated on Tower Hill Memorial, London but those marked with an asterisk are commemorated on Hong Kong Memorial.

    I attended the Merchant Navy Days service at Tower Hill Memorial on Sunday 3rd September where the plaque had just been mounted.
