My father, Lt. James R. Smith, was radar observer aboard the Jing-Bow Joy-Ride, a P-61 Black Widow attached to the 426th NFS in the CBI Theater. He and pilot Carl Absmeier were a high-scoring night fighter team, with two air-to-air victories and a number of successful intruder missions. They participated in a hazardous mission to destroy the strategically important Yellow River Bridge -- even with papers to return home in their pockets. Sadly, my father died in 2003, but he left a detailed memoir of his war exploits. This has now been posted in its entirely at www.nightfighter.info. We welcome all visitors to this site, which is full of facts, observations, humor and courage. It's easy to see why these guys are sometimes called the "greatest generation." Just wanted everyone to know about this resource. Thanks, and blue skies to all!
Alisa Have you ever thought of having a book published about your Dad? I know there's a lot of memoirs out there (never enough!) but I have not come across many, if any actually, about P-61 pilots. Will have to check you site for sure! Cheers Andy
