Looking through the War Diary of 23 Field Ambulance who were on the Silchar Track in June 1944. They were supported by a number of stretcher bearer parties from No. 3 Bearer unit which were attached to them. A number of the bearers were killed but are not named and I could not find the unit amongst those buried and commemorated on the three Imphal cemeteries/memorials. Does anyone know what the Bearer Unit would be part of - Indian Army Medical Corps, Indian Pioneer Corps? and anything about their structure leadership etc.
There's a brief mention of a sister unit on this IWM catalogue entry (in the notes at the end). It does appear to be an R/IAMC unit. MEN OF THE PUNJAB REGIMENT ON PATROL AND STRETCHER BEARERS AT WORK [Allocated Title]
