Hello My first post. I recently found Norman Scott's details via Google and saw several other people were commenting. He was my father's brother hence would have been my uncle but he was killed before I was born. Are any of the researchers Scotts or Brayfords or other branch of the family? I would be pleased to hear. . Peter Scott
Hi Peter, Welcome to the forum The right man?? From Ancestry UK, Army Roll of Honour, 1939-1945 Name: Norman Scott Given Initials: N B Rank: Major Death Date: 27 May 1940 Number: 52064 Birth Place: Derbyshire Residence: Lincolnshire Regiment at Enlistment: Royal Corps of Signals Branch at Enlistment: Royal Corps of Signals Theatre of War: France and Belgium Campaign, 1939/40 Regiment at Death: Royal Corps of Signals Branch at Death: Royal Corps of Signals There are other records for him but at present I cannot find any other family trees that include him. If you need military info of his time with the BEF then member Drew5233 is your man, so if you need that info I would suggest you start a thread in the 1940 section of the forum from where Drew will pick up your thread. TD edited to add I see you have seen the other thread on your Uncle http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/31818-major-nb-scott-royal-signals-nine-elms-cemetary-belgium/
Annoyingly CWGC don't list his unit. If we knew that the war diary might mention the circumstances of his death being that he was a Major. http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2252975/SCOTT,%20NORMAN%20BRAYFORD
Drew I think you have already answered the query on the other thread - page 2 - http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/31818-major-nb-scott-royal-signals-nine-elms-cemetary-belgium/ TD
Tricky Dicky This certainly is the right man. I will continue to view the threads with great interest. Regards Peter Scott
Hi Peter I have been trying to find a birth cert for him and also a marriage cert to Vera Mary - both of which I have been unable to find (as yet). Looking for their marriage cert I did come across a Vera Mary Tilly who married twice, second time to a Clarence William Scott, but her first husband is unnamed, but obviously from the info he died sometime in 1940 (I believe) - so I was wondering if this was a coincidence for she liked having the Scott surname. This could be a complete red herring of course: "When Vera Mary Tilly was born on July 8, 1911, in London, London, her father, Herbert, was 41 and her mother, Laura, was 43. She married her first husband in 1940 in London, London. In December 1940 she married her second husband in London, London. She died in June 1984 in Eastbourne, Sussex, at the age of 72." I am beginning to wonder if he was actually born and/or married outside the UK - albeit the military document shows him being born in Derbyshire ?? TD
TD I believe you are following the wrong Vera Mary. My take is that she was Vera Mary Collard b.14Aug. 1914. And died in Sept. 1969. Belper 3a 81. She had a daughter Angela, Who is now deceased. I met them both only once or twice and obviously many years ago and had no further contact. Regards PS
Hi PS You are probably right - I did mention that it was probably a red herring and so it has now been proved - thanks TD
Had a quick look at http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/advanced 3 articles can be viewed there. First one may mention your own father Peter, I'm not sure.
