I am on vBulletin 4.0.1 and have no such problem, nor did I on previous versions. It could be a modification causing a glitch maybe? The biggest problem switching to 4.0.0 was everyone had to log in again and some could not so I had to recreate passwords. Also, do we only get email notifications for subscribed threads, it does on mine??

I was on Orange/Freeserve on first joining, and the notifications never got through, switched to BT and it works fine. The messages are being sent, but they just don't get through to everyone, apparently dependent on email address.
Some ISPs/emails we have real bother getting site-generated emails through to at all (Aol & ntl for a start ). There's a variety of possible reasons for it, most likely being they just don't 'like' our provider for some reason (Given that aol/ntl are often a bugger to get normal emails to, due to their over-sensitive/sledgehammer spam filters, I suspect that's what happens here too.)

A fair few chaps that have previously had bother have found our emails lurking in the spam-list, rectified by allowing them - and others have had success by changing the email associated with the site (Something that has to be done by a Mod/Admin, as obviously with emails not getting through it's impossible to use the site's system - use the 'contact us' option at the top of the page if you want to give it a shot, though there's no absolute guarantee of success.)

AOL is the worst, if the sender is not in the contacts list, you cannot get through. I am with virginmedia ISP and my emails are via google.

    my emails are via google.

Best web-based email provider I've ever used.
2+ years, no spam, normal people always get through.

I do get spam in google but it all goes in a one click to clear sector which I never open. The odd one sneaks through but I just add it to the filters.

How can I receive a notification by e-mail if somebody has posted in a topic where I have also posted or a topic I have started?

    Hi Pieter,
It's done via the 'Thread Tools' menu at the top of the thread - click 'Subscribe to this thread'.

    BUT
The system is clunky at best.
We don't seem to get web-generated emails through to certain addresses or providers.
If you had to contact us to get your account activated, then I'm afraid there's a fair chance that notifications also won't get through.

Thanks for the quick reply! I use this 'Thread Tool', but it is indeed not working, so I guessed I did something wrong. I can remember I had to contact you to get my account activated, so I am afraid my provider won't let them through.
What do you suggest? Do I have to use another e-mail adress?

    We could but try.
PM me another and we'll give it a shot - Gmail/Hotmail and other online emails usually seem fine - Tiscali, Orange, ntl among others, seem to bounce everything

Strangely my automatic notifications have just started again this week, after about three years of not working. :)

I was looking for a place to post about this problem and found this thread.

I find it most frustrating to not get notification of replies in threads that I have subscribed to. I will go to "Advanced" check "Instant email notification" and nothing! It's been that way for an age.

    Any suggestions?

David if you make a habit of checking your subscribed threads each time you visit or log in this might help a little circumnavigating the problem. Of course it relies upon regular visits.
Due to the idiosyncrasies of my email accounts, I haven't been able to get notifications for the majority of my membership either but, I can live with it.
Go to User CP on the header above and click. Any new posts to subscribed threads will be instantly recognisable - titles appear in bold.

What do you know but I got nofification of a reply today, first time ever!

I hope it continues, did something get changed in the recent shutdown?

I haven't been getting any notifications recently (last one was 26th March).

I've checked that I am still subscribed to the forums/topics, and I've also looked in my spam folder.

    Any one else?

    Any ideas?
