Last week I submitted a Service Record request from Glasgow, for a 'German Alien' who fought in WW2 for the British Army. He left UK in 1947. He died in San-Diego USA, 1972. (I supect he might have taken up American Citizenship ).(He did take up British Naturalisation 1947). Today, I received back a refusal. Reason- 'No Death Cert Supplied'. I did include a photo of his grave in San Diego and explained further with details. Due to a recent change in policy has dictated that photographs, Crematorium Notices, Obituries or Death Register Index are insufficient for the purposes of establishing identity. It is a pity the sender did not read my notes re: USA. Instead, they directed me to the UK GRO. for a Certificate!!! I am quite familiar with obtaining necessary certificates from our G.R.O and how easy it is in UK. Do we have a member who lives in San- Diego area, California USA, who can explain to me how easy it is to obtain a Death Certificate from the area? Some Countries/States have very tight rules on who can or cannot obtain certificates. Not sure where I stand? Thanks Alan
You will only be able to obtain an "Information Copy" but this should suffice. You can obtain these online through VitalCheck Order Your Vital Records Online | VitalChek
I have now received an 'Information Copy' of the Death Certificate from the USA as recommended by 'horsapassenger'. I did use a similar route to obtain what I needed via a friend living in the USA. Today, I forwarded the request for the German Alien 'Service Record' from Glasgow. I do hope they do make searches using both his Alien name and Alias name. I have pointed out both names and explained the reasons. I wonder which name was used in record keeping?
It may also be worth giving Glasgow a call as I have always found them very helpful, and in this case it is often easier to explain than write an explanation. TD
