This is a Finnish J so I guess your right Owen. I've always seen the later models with larger turrets.

Hey great shots of those old Panzers. Time to make another war flick in Bulgaria.

The Director of the National Muselm of Sofia didn't repound to my email yet.Im going to write a message to the Director of the War Muselm maybe he will do something but i dunno.Thats the Bulgarian spirit, its a pity but everything in Bulgaria is that way, there are many tanks, mines left but no one do anything about it.
Thats the true about Bulgarian govermant, anyone think only about the money. There isn't any motherland love there isn't any value and honor that used to have here in Bulgaria during comunism.Befor 1989 everyone and every firm worked only for the prospect of Bulgaria but not anymore.
This summer im going to see those tanks for myself, but actualy there are army proparty.

Eh? What larger turrets? Pz IV turrets were all the same size, this one is just missing the back turret storage bin and possibly the skirt armour.

I think that's what HO's saying Za, that he'd always thought of the later types having larger turrets and now sees that's not so.
This is veering off Bulgaria somewhat though.
Dani? If you eventually get down there some general photos showing the emplacements in the landscape would be good as all we've seen are quite close-up shots. (and lots of detail pictures too please ;))

Has anyone read any particularly good books that have covered the Bulgarians war?

Its unbalivable that we the bulgarians are so stuped and so blind. There is a golden mine on the border and what we do ? We are diging some pappers from 15 century.

Interesting little site on Bulgarian armed forces:
    BulgariaWW2

The armour section has a mention of 15 Panthers being given to the country by the USSR, wonder if these could have been the one's dug in?
On 13th April 1945 the Bulgarian Army recive 15 "Panthers" from the trophy service of Third Ukrainian Front

    Cheers,
    Adam.

No mate, got distracted & our man on the ground Dani (BS) hasn't been seen for a while. (maybe he's on the border with a JCB as we speak).
I don't think it'd be too hard to properly clarify where they are though, and it should be on here in case anyone visits... I shall move it up the 'things to do' list!

    Cheers,
    Adam.

    Thanks,

Slightly O/T whats your views on relic hunters? There are obviously areas (Spreewald, Halbe etc. which are recognised as war graves) but I've had some bad experiences with the German Police. Any advice on how one goes about getting official approval to look for relics in Germany?

It doesnt give any info about the tanks other than "Maybach". Could it be a Mark IV?

Peter, where do you find this stuff??

What interests me is the reference to a turret being stolen. We have to take into account that the press isn't too bothered about 'name that vehicle' type activities, but the Stugs there have no turret, so it might concievably be one of the T34s or Mark IVs or, (perhaps hopefully), with the reference to the Maybach powerplants implying at least a German manufactured vehicle maybe there are Panthers there after all.

Ok well that explains that. As I recall we couldnt find any pictures of Panthers in Bulgarian service so it was more than likely going to be the Mk IV.

If I remember right the installed Panthers were said to have been put in postwar, like the other vehicles, though there is a part of the legend that says they were scrapped in the 50s.

Think this thread might have to be merged in with the main Bulgarian tanks one as it's definitely pertinent to it and continues the story.
EDIT: Merged Peter's thread into this one.
