Somedays researching is easier then others. Two days ago I was in TNA and copied everything except the one document I wanted... and now I have to pay 45 quid to go back. Today I randomly perused a Guards personal Diary I must have read a thousand times, and came across the mention of the war artist Ardizzone visiting the coldstream guards and drawing TAC HQ on Monte Aqua Salante. I went on the net, found a historical site about him, contacted the website, got in touch with his daughter, who told me that his paintings are in the IWM, I went on their catalogue, went through his online pictures, found the right date on one of them with a quote from his diary... Date fits, Coldstream Guards on Aqua Salante in paint... who knows maybe one of them is my Grandfather? Photograph taken from the Imperial War Musuem website.
