I took this in May 2011, I visited Hamilton Air museum in Ontario Canada. My mother is in the bottom left, she stood in awe at the size of the aircraft her father was a flight engineer on.

Thanks to nicks for heads up that the BBMF Lanc would be in my area today.
16.15 over the Swindon & Cricklade Railway.
    It was spot on time.
Here's some dodgey mobile phone pics taken by my mrs.
I was looking at the Lanc with my bins & getting goosebumps.

I was shocked to find this picture only because i have an original copy . The Air Gunner in the front center is my grandfather Arnold Beattie. From his stories, the plane behind them is M and they normally flew B. I have not been able to track down any pics of that plane.

The test aircraft above are Napier Lincoln B2s (,ie might be referred to as Lancaster Mark Vs before the designation,Lincoln was adopted) Napier used a number of B2s for R&D in relation to their gas turbine and for anti icing tests, all identified with British civilian register codes. These tests required a section of test wing to be fitted on the specially reinforced fuselage back.

The centre photograph shows Lincoln B2 RF402.It was was used first of all for the development of combustion heaters for the Ministry of Supply.Later the aircraft was the test bed for the Beverley hot gas anti icing system. It carried a section of the Beverley's wing mounted on the top of the specially strengthened fuselage back.In front of the test wing section was a nozzle mast (shown) equipped with droplet sampler probes and an auto camera. This test was also conducted for the Britannia and Comet development.

I think the first photograph is Lincoln B2 RF342 which replaced RF402 (which became the Hangar Queen for spares) and carried the civil register G-APRJ. It went on to conduct anti icing tests on the wing and tail sections of the Argosy,Avro 748,Buccaneer and Caravelle. It was then refurbished in RAF colours at the RAF College of Aeronautics at Cranfield where it replaced the now famous Lancaster, Serial No, PA 474 as a test aircraft. PA474 had been used for R&D on laminar flow wing tests on such aircraft as the Folland Midge, Lincoln B2 RF342 then undertook this test bed role.

Lancaster PA 474, then in turn, was recovered by No 44 Squadron B.C based at Waddington, the aircraft having passed through Wroughton storage and Henlow.

Have just been sent this from a friend in Canada. This is probably a good place to share it:

Apart from showing Lincoln cathedral at the end of the video, I think that the music was also recorded in Lincoln cathedral. Very poignant when so close to Scampton.

The Dambusters March is also the tune for the hymn ' God give us Strength and Refuge' with lots of videos on YouTube...some good and some not so good.
