    Good stuff.
On the 'Johnny Walker' nose art - 4th row of bomb markings down - there's what looks like a broom or mop.
Can I ask the aerially fixated; what does that denote?
    Clean sweep?
    Washout?

It seems to be missing from the wartime photos. See link below.

and finally don't believe all that is printed

    From Wayne Lancaster Forum
The photo shows them not heading out for a night raid, but during a good will tour of the USA in 1946.
16 Lancasters from 35 squadron, and 1 York supplied by Transport Command (containing spare parts) left RAF Graveley on 8 July 1946.

Sgt LO Lynch from Jamaica, winner of the Air Gunner's Trophy for 1944, standing by a Lancaster bomber.

I know this is an official IWM image and I guess the note along side is also official ..............BUT Sgt Lynch is standing at the rear of a Halifax NOT a Lancaster. The curved perspex turret and the high tail plane are a give away.

I recently bought a box of photographic odds and ends at an auction and found this uncaptioned photo. I assume it shows the post-war, 1950s?, 'decommissioning' of a once proud Lancaster. I have no idea of who, when, where etc... any comments/theories welcome.

I see that the BBMF Lancaster PA 474 had a hectic flypast programme on 4 May over Holland visiting Brunssum first and 8 other locations. Very much appreciated by the locals as the flypasts were to commemorate the Manna drops, referred to by B.C aircrews as Operation "Spam" which took place in late April early May 1945.

The aircraft is now grounded in Amstersdam after an engine failure.A replacement engine is awaited and the transport is to be done by the Luftwaffe as BBMF did not want to risk the Dakota having to cope with any bad weather. The Lufwaffe are using what appears to be a Transall, From a front fuselage side elevation shot,it looked like a twin engined job and not a Hercules.

Its just occurred to me that this shot of Lancasters was probably taken in Germany shortly after 8 May 1945 when Bomber Command were operating a shuttle service back to the UK for POWs liberated from POW camps. Most of the aircraft were flown into RAF Wing with some of those, possibily from south Germany being staged through the Reims area.

    Hi.
A wonderful series of Lancaster photo's. I had the good fortune to work on the Lanc's big brother, the Lincoln, fifteen feet more wing! This was 1950/52 before 617 Squadron received their first Canberra, another beauty. They were a headache for electricians, even trimtabs were electrically operated. I loved them. Still in touch with 617 Squadron and have two to play with at the Dumfries Aviation Museum, slowing down a bit at 79!!!

I can't get the overlay to fit. It's either in the wrong place or the photograph was not taken looking vertically down and my expertise can't get Google Earth to tilt at the same angle as the 'photo.

I love the Lanc, gives me goose shivers every time but (as well as nicks last few coloured ones) I must say I really like David Layne's '1 engine buzz job'.
Gives an idea of the power reserves of the beautiful beast.

Hadn't checked out this thread for a while. What an excellent post you've made there - I really like the montage with GE. Superb!

My kids got me the Haynes Manual for the Lancaster a while back and I only recently got round to reading it properly. An excellent book, which makes you want to get into a Lanc!!
