I have been researching my late fathers Regt (149 Regt R.A.C.). for a number of years and am now stuck on the exact location of Oyster box. I know that at times other tank Regt's (150th & D,G's) were held at this location but none of the War Diary's give a map or road milestone reference. Or I have missed it. .If anyone could help I would be very grateful

Thank you Jitter Party, I have a similar area, but could not quite understand the need to request Transporters for such a short trip.I think they were on 4 days service at MS 98.

Larkin, as a matter of interest 149 Regt RAC was formed from 7th Bn KOYLI under the command of Lt Col Victor Henry Wells Cole MC (KOYLI). After two years in command he then took command of 20 Reinforcement Camp and eventually became Box Commander of Lion Box just a few miles further north from Oyster Box. In actual fact, tank support during the battle of Lion Box came from 3rd Carbs laagered in Oyster. By the time 149 had reached Oyster after the Siege of Imphal had been lifted Lt Col Wells Cole and his unit had been flown out so missed a reunion with old comrades.
Among my papers I have an original copy of Lt Col Wells Cole’s Special Order of The Day when he left 149 in February 1943 upon completion of his duties.

Dear Sir, Thank you for the information on Lt Col Wells Cole MC. I did not know when Lt Col F.W.B.Good took over the Regt as my transcribed copy of the Regt's War Diary has a complete blank from 31st Oct 42 through to 1st May 43. due it seems to missing pages from the original held by the Tank Museum. I can now insert Feb 43 as the change over date. Thank you.

Does anyone have any more information regarding Lt Col Wells-Cole MC? He's my great great Uncle and I'm just trying to get some more info on him.

    Thomas,

Have you seen his service summary from 2005 on a WW1 website? See: The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Note a member, Lionboxer there did get his official citation and I expect he is a current member here, he logged in earlier.

If his MC was awarded for WW1 service the commendation is on: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30614/supplement/4232/data.pdf

On a quick search there are a number of online sources about him. I used his full name within "xxxx" + "MC"

On a search this thread appears to be the only mention of him.

I have sent Lionboxer a PM to alert him to your post.
