All I haven't seen this anywhere else on here. There is an online petition against the proposed Monday closure of the National Archives at Kew at Petition to: ensure Monday opening of the National Archives at Kew. | Number10.gov.uk which I would encourage everyone to sign. Thanks Chris
Thanks for that - I hope this is not the sign of cuts in public service we are beginning to hear about.
When I was there a couple of weeks ago, a woman waiting alongside me started chatting about this very subject. She thought that the NA Management were looking at closing on another day as well.
Those of us who travel good distances to Kew will know that Sunday is the cheapest night for Motels in the area. Stopping on Sunday night allows a full days work on Monday instead of arriving at Lunch time.
It appears to me that they want to adopt a weekday closure like their European colleagues. Here in Germany many places are closed on a Monday, but are sometimes open weekends. Regards Tom
Though i think that online petitions are a load of old bo***x and a Monday closure would probably never affect me (Tuesdays and Wednesdays are always better to travel the distance I have to cover) , I've signed it anyway... it might have a knock-on effect on the other opening times (Wednesdays are (comparatively) lovely and peaceful in there, with a quicker document turnaround, I've noticed...this might change if TNA were to close on Mondays). dave.
I don't see the problem; Kew would still be open five days (Tuesday-Saturday) instead of the present six, unlike the National Archives of Scotland which are only open Monday-Friday. We don't have the luxury of weekend opening.
