I was browsing fleabay recently looking for photos of prisoners of war and came across this picture of German troops. It caught my eye due to the date - my great grandfather was captured at Franleu after the fighting there on the 5th of June. Anyway, I wondered if anyone could help figure out the writing on the back. The seller had a lot more photos which looked like they were from the Dieppe raid - allied prisoners, wrecked tanks on the shore etc but I lost out on them.
For some reason the original post doesn't seem to appear in the "general topics" forum. The photo upload was being a bit glitchy last night so maybe that has buggered up the post? Adding this reply to see if it bumps the post into view. Edit - since posting this reply a few seconds ago the number of views has gone from 0 to 66! But it still doesn't show in new content?
So possibly Poland? I'll have to scan it properly and see if it brings out any more details of uniforms etc.
They look slightly older men over all. Would make sense , a garrison unit in Poland in 40 whilst the others are off fighting in France. Speculation & guesswork I admit.
