I would love to get a photo of my Uncles headstone in Cassino Cemetery if any one can help! His name is Fred Maude and was in the IRISH REGIMENT of Canada. Thanks Ed Maude
Ed, you might have spotted this web site, which is doing a very good job. BRITISH VIRTUAL WAR CEMETERY OF CASSINO by 1°IIS M. Bartolo - PACHINO VIRTUAL BRITISH WAR CEMETERY OF CASSINO by 1°IIS M. Bartolo - PACHINO best
Ed & Richard As someone who wnt back to Cassino in 2005 I think the site that Richard has linked to is an excellent attempt to be of service to relatives of the fallen. When I have time I will seek to add photos as requested. BBC - WW2 People's War - Return to Cassino Ron
Ron, I think it's great - no doubt a continuing WIP and you'll note it doesn't just cover Cassino CWGC. And the chap running it, Signor Giannito, seems a very helpful man. best
Hipassgramps You should know that the Irish regiment were the junior regiment of 11th Bde of 5th CAD and having come late into Italy some elements of the bde were thrown into their first battle on the Arelli River - immediately after the capture of Ortona by 1st CID at Christmas ' 43. - the division was then under the command of Bert Hoffmeister - and we next saw them at Prezenzano awaiting the move into the Liri Valley in early May '44 Cheers
Ed. I am out in Cassino 14-17 Jun 13 running a battlefield study so if you would like an up to date photo, I would be happy to oblige. Regards FdeP

Their movements in the Liri led to the story that during the traffic chaos near to Ceprano when the Canadians were in close proximity to the Royal Irish Fusiliers, a Canadian officer was heard to shout out : "Canadian Irish this way, English Irish that way..." Come to think of it, I suppose I'm English Irish or Irish English (with a bit of Irish and English mixed in) myself. best,
RIchard fairly typical of the Cdn Irish - they were a cause of much of the traffic jamb in the valley in bumping into the 6thAd when trying to get out of the way of an ARGA moving up - and we couldn't move up - they had tough time at Ceprano as Stan Sikowski relates in his book " not all of us were brave ' Cheers
Hi everyone, dear Ed Madue, I took some photographs of your uncle's grave from the CWM of Cassino: All the best. Damiano
