As anyone else noticed that CWGC have started to add photos of headstones onto casualty records for the UK cemeteries. https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2695714/leslie-launder/
Hi Clive it looks like not just the UK ones but all CWGC cemeteries around the world hopefully. Where the headstone photo should be there is a sign saying 'that they are in the process of obtaining a photo'.
I do hope they do it for private headstones,I have flagged enough of them that are in a bit of a state
I emailed the CWGC offering my photos that I have taken across the whole of Lincolnshire, and they replied, thanking me for the offer, and they said they were still in the early days of the process, but they will be making further announcements next Spring.
They've started The ones I have seen look like mainly VC winners so far https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/475164/samuel-needham/ https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2662995/aubrey-cosens/ https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2661167/david-samuel-anthony-lord/ Saying that, the photos are very poor quality and size, and seem to have been taken by a 10 year old on an old phone. What would have been good was the CWGC made a collection of high quality photos, taken by staff around the world, specifically from Cemeteries in places that are difficult to visit. Instead they seem to be adding crappy little versions of crappy pictures that will be of little or no use to anyone using the website.
