Here's mine. In the first one (taken at our home in Toronto in 1970), I'm the 13 year-old in front. Standing on the left is Oberfeldwebel Hermann Glemnitz, chief "ferret" (guard) at Stalag Luft 3. On the right is Squadron Leader Peter Stevens MC, RAF POW (my Dad). The second photo is a somewhat more current version of yours truly. Marc
Me last year onboard the mighty HMS Liverpool in Mayport Naval Base, Florida (with USS Gettysburg) behind. Me last year on same deployment entering Norfolk Naval Base, Virginia. Thats the 'massive' USS Enterprise in the background. If you look really carefully behind my left shoulder you can just make out the tiny HMS Ark Royal, they got in just before us that morning.
Ok, I'll toss my ugly mug in here....4 wheelin' is my thing The wife and I in San Francisco Quail Lodge, Carmel, California prior to driving off a cliff Trying not to roll The cliff Puppy

Marc Herr Glemnitz must have been good to your father while he was imprisoned.
Photos are boring...you can see me on TV instead! 'Don't Tell The Bride' BBC3 21:00 Tuesday 8th Nov, i'm not the one getting married but it's a Navy special and i'm the divisional officer of the lad who is getting married. The bit with me in was filmed at my work with my 4.5" gun spinning around etc.....cool eh? I'm actually dreading it though! It's gonna be cringworthy stuff.
Herr Glemnitz must have been good to your father while he was imprisoned. My father was also in Stalag Luft III and for the life of me I cannot seeing him giving Glemnitz the hospitality of his home. He would have been more inclined to punch him in the eye!
Pretty darn close, but that was the Land Rover Experience driving school so technically British territory Here's one for the Yanks.... Hey, Wayne, isn't bringing a Range Rover to the US tantamount to a sin?

David, Your father's sentiments seem closer to what I've heard. A few Canadian veterans have described some retribution (or attempted), upon gaining their freedom, against some of the more abusive Germans. Most guards, it would seem, were smart enough to anticipate what might happen and cleared off at the first opportunity.

I have resisted the temptation until now but, as I finally have a picture of me that I like I will add it here I am 2nd from right at my mate's wedding in Scotland, the bloke far right wearing miniature medals (one of my best mates) had recently 'retired' from British Army. All four of us are Essex boys but the locals made us feel like honourary Scotsmen for the day - it was a day to remember.
