Certainly autumn, fresh snow now observed on "ordinary" mountains of about 4000 ft.

Fresh what? Never heard... ;) Last winter I saw 1mm of it that lasted for 10 minutes :)

Those were the days. A lad could die of exposure from the frost accretions on his handlebars, think he was privileged to have enough money to buy a 19/6d Airfix Lancaster and go happy on the glue fumes without developing a dependency, get beaten up on the way home for the recreational pleasure of attackers and onlookers, suffer spinal injuries on playground see-saws whilst losing a life's front teeth walking past an errant swing.

Bar the spinal injuries, the biggest I was able to rate was a Ju 52, so you were better off by one engine :D

As for being beaten up, that's a long story from the time Za wasn't yet Za...

Yes Cobber, a very disturbing drought that hopefully has broken. From continual years of dry conditions our dams at 28% this time last year and looking today we are at 44.1%.

The only downside for me is I will have to do more gardening and lawn mowing.

    Hi all

"Last winter I saw 1mm of it that lasted for 10 minutes"

Za you are fortunate to get that!!!!

We never get snow here, would be nice to see but a bit cold!

And Spidge , I know how you feel, we have a a bad time of it up here too, it would be nice to have a happy medium!!
At least you get some exercise mowing the lawn !!!!!!
    regards

    Robert

Quote Slipdigit: We had a severe drought in 2007 and I hated it. I cannot imagine a 12 year one.End Quote

Yeah 12 years was not good, although we had months and even years and years of unusually dry and sunny weather which sounds great you soon start to see things dry up and trees etc stop growing with the tops even dying off as they cannot get enough water up to the top. Most especially northern hemisphere trees and shrubs etc. The reservoirs end up not being able to keep up with demand and it's levels drop alarmingly creating water shortages and restrictions on water use with many things taken for granted banned, "car washing, watering gardens and the list goes on oh also try showering for 3 minutes or less every day.

Good thing from the drought is a nice sized Desalination plant being built here in Victoria, many people in the cities and large towns got their own rain water tanks to harvest rain water from their roof for use in flushing toilets and watering the garden and so on and the open Channels were turned into pipe lines. The people in the bush were not so lucky they got even less rain fall than the city and their dams dried up and water tanks also emptied. However it has helped even the most stubborn people to realize that we have to keep our selves prepared for any other drought event
We donot have the amount or size of the rivers that most others have. Most of our rivers usually have a low and even slow flow. So we just cannot go out and create new dams as their are precious few suitable rivers left.

During an unexpected break in the wet weather, I managed to drape my boat in some tarp AND mowe the lawn  today.
( Fortunately there was no time to clean the windows !)

Furthermore, when sunset at 1858 loc and bearing 262 deg, there is no way denying it's autumn on this side of the globe.

Thought I would start a thread on members pictures taken in Autumn. We have had some lovely clear sunny days here in the East Riding of Yorkshire lately. Here are some taken last week when the leaves were falling. Some pics of birds feeding in Goole cemetery. Nice one of a squirrels bum too
