I bought a cheap motion sensitive camera last year. I had mixed results, popped them on youtube, and try to update each month.... Cornwall Garden Camera

A nice part of the world. A little wet at times but British Columbia is a favourite destination for me.

Further update on the fox family - now being visited by a cub as well as the dog fox and vixen. The attraction for them here is dog biscuits soaked in gravy. Talk about spoilt!

    Appeared on our local news
Hedgehog not prickly about feasting with fox. Foxes out here in the country are much shyer than their urban cousins. Hedgehogs may be making a comeback - hear one snuffling in the hedge below my bedroom window most nights.

Have to say that the two hedgehogs in our garden are relatively unconcerned about the foxes, although they do curl a bit when the fox is taking the food literally right under their noses. The cub in the pic above came across one of the hedgehogs a couple of nights ago, I guess for the first time, and plainly was so surprised that it jumped, but left it alone.

I noticed this today at the apex of my shed. Can anyone confirm that it's a wasps' nest? I'm not too bothered about it - but is there anything I should know or do about it? Thanks. Screen Shot 2020-06-11 at 19.48.54.png

Thanks, Blutto. I was watching the wasps continuing to build the nest today - what a task! I won't disturb it, because I think the wasps are pretty harmless unless you upset them.

You’re not wrong. They were a little bit miffed the last time I tried to get rid of them with my Acme VespiTron.

Or the nest is in the wrong place. Had a huge one in a hole in the ground by the front gate a year or so back and visitors were going too near and getting stung. On the whole they kill more pests than they do harm. Particularly crane flies whose grubs (leather jackets) can do a lot of damage to plant roots. Biggest problem is end of year when the wasp grubs stop producing food for the workers so they go off and try and get it from rotting apples and/or human food.

Following on from posts above, this update shows how fast the family of cubs are growing, all five of the family turning up last night to 'enjoy' leftover chicken gravy and chicken fat mixed with stale bread crusts - quite yummy, I'm sure!! There was a bit of pushing and shoving!
