Does anyone have any information about a pilot, G.F. Irving. He joined 214 Squadron at R.A.F. Feltwell in January 1938. He remained with the Squadron throughout 1940.

    Guy,

I think this might be your man here: Casualty

    Squadron Leader Gordon Forbes Irving...

    Edited to add:

Pg 86 of "Royal Air Force Bomber Losses in the Middle East and Mediterranean, Vol 1: 1939-42" by David Gunby and Pelham Temple

27/28 September 1941 Wellington IC T2729 Op: Rhodes

    S/Ldr GF Irving+
    F/Sgt TC Fitzgerald RCAF+
    W/O S Howarth+
    F/Sgt W Trotter+
    F/Lt MJ Miller+
    F/Sgt EH Keeping+

T/o at 1400, Fayid. A message was sent stating engine was failing, and that a course was being set for Turkey. It is believed the aircraft ditched close to shore on the south side of Rhodes. All are commemorated on the Alamein Memorial.

    Regards,

    Dave
