Lads, while surfing around the Web, I came upon this link: Aircraft Downed During the Cold War and Thereafter And within, with this very interesting reference: "22 May 1954 > In combat with Six People's Republic of China PLAAF aircraft, Republic of China Air Force pilots Chien and Yen, flying P-47 Thunderbolts, shared in the downing of a MiG-15 Fagot" I knew of a RN Sea Fury downing a Fagot over Korea, and a Spad (A-1 Skyraider, that is) taking down a MiG-17 Fresco over 'Nam, but this one came as a complete surprise, as windmillers getting the upper hand over jets was a very rare far and between ocurrence. It is also worth mentioning that this conflict was one of several firsts, as, for example, the first ever air-to-air missile kill happened over the Taiwan Strait in September 1958, when RoCAF F-86 Sabres ambushed and literally decimated a flight of red Frescos. However, even though I have been trying to come up with some more info on the subject, nothing substantial has surfaced so far; does any of you lot know of other sources?
