I'm interested in what the commemorative medal will look like myself. Hopefully not as blingy as the Golden example.
I noticed that Prince William was wearing the ribbon (far right as we look at image) for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee medal at yesterday's St. Patrick's Day parade. I'm not sure if the actual medals have been allocated just yet, but good to see this in any case:
The only bunting up on this housing estate are Union Jack bunting i.e. with flags adorning a Hong Kong family house.
According to yesterday's "Sunday Times" the Queen has stayed in the following hotels on various trips abroad. The second to last is the lowest price per night these days, others do not exist or have changed a lot, some are rather expensive. Perhaps some members have slept in the same place once slept in by Her Majesty ? Just had a look at the Intercontinental Amstel for this weekend. Wedding anniversary last week and I need to sort something. Price is EUR 1,300 for a double for one night. I guess we're going camping.
I can't help thinking she would rather have gone camping. Perhaps a tour of Scotland on a tandem, or a pony. Once you've seen one stuccoed ceiling, you've seen them all. ( For "Channel" read "North Sea" ).
I can confirm that the area around the Palace is complete zoo, with barricades all over the place and levels of security that would make an airport green with envy. Saw a platoon of Ghurkas doing drill in the Guards barracks yesterday and some Horseguards doing their thing. All the best Andreas
Seems set to be a washout as far as we are concerned. Our granddaughter is coming for a day, first time since going into hospital with Leukaemia six months ago. Its a last minute job as she was only given the o.k. two weeks ago. We decided to do the place up , bought bunting (very difficult to get) started to do the garden up. All set to jet wash the patio and put up the Gazebo this morning but the icy cold rain has stopped us so far and the forecast has made us re think the whole thing. The Granddaughter is off to holiday in Wales with her mother and father, one of our sons is on a D of E weekend. Older neighbours declined the invitations petrified of Covid as they all seem to know someone with it. Lets face it early June is always dodgy as the guys on the Mulberry discovered all those years ago. The bunting is still in the wrapping. Perhaps we might get a repeat of 6th of June '44 and get a few good days. We can cook hot dogs and burgers in the kitchen or have something more sophisticated. God old Dunkirk Spirit! mutter, mutter, mutter. Happy Platinum Jubilee!
Flag inherited from my Great Aunt which was probably flown in May 1935 for the Silver Jubilee of George V. Perhaps flown in June 1897 for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee ? A candidate for the repair shop, or a bonfire.
I'm getting stressed just looking at the number of Union flags displayed upside down outside shops and so many homes, one of my pet hates. I'll be glad when the Platinum Jubilee is over, I need a lie down.
That is fantastic. 'Proper.' I nearly ordered a flag. Never owned a flag before. Well... not one that wasn't on a Tie-dye field. Apparently I'm not allowed to steal the proper old woollen ones from Fishwife/Akela's Cub/Scout HQ. Pfft.
