Have you read it? What did you think of it? I guess I didn't look too closely at the text as I am puzzled by part of the blurb for it on Amazon: "However, Charles Whiting’s classic book, now reprinted in paperback is in the author’s own words not a history. " (emphasis mine) I saw it in a charity shop yesterday but did not snap it up. Could still pick it up before I leave Dorchester today.
Everyone to their own view but I put Whitings books into the same category as those by Patrick Delaforce; they are 'sort-of histories' notably history with errors but still a reasonable read. If it's going cheap I would buy it 'just in case it contains a useful bit of info'.
I didn't realize that Whiting wrote a lot of novels featuring German soldiers and such. Decided to take a pass.
Note: Charles Henry Whiting (18 December 1926 – 24 July 2007), was a British writer and military historian and with some 350 books of fiction and non-fiction to his credit, under his own name and a variety of pseudonyms including Duncan Harding, Ian Harding, John Kerrigan, Leo Kessler, Klaus Konrad, K.N. Kostov, and Duncan Stirling. You might have read him without being aware of the fact!
