Well, that's not a logging use I recall seeing.
Makes some sense too, given the size of that tree & type of road.
Presumably 'getting it off the twisty mountain' style.
Would like to see the turntable/connection more closely. Where's it from, Dave?

It was definitely from Facebook but I can't find the group I got it from again. I think it was one of the antique truck groups but it might have been from either a Sherman group or a WWII group. I can never figure out what Facebook thinks I'm looking for :(

I think the crane truck started life as a Studebaker US6 2.5 ton. Note the flat top fenders. Nice GMC log truck is postwar.

Looks like a Mack NO with a homemade cab.

In the early 1970s my school bus used to pass a garage that had one exactly like that with a tow crane on the back. Woodhouse Eaves, Leicestershire. Very close to what is now the MoD College, then a Royal Signals depot.

Better photo of it from my original negatives.

That Morris ... Ta. I recall as school children the speculation that it looked like the Airfix Quad however distinctly different. The rear side panels were as on your example - either a practical fashion copied or possibly a modifier commercially civilianising them.

This rarity does not quite exactly fit the criteria of this thread, but it does for the most part:
During the war, KHD was commissioned to build the Steyr RSO (round cab) under license, but with an air-cooled diesel engine (and square cab)
After the end of the war, vehicles of all kinds were urgently needed, so KHD received permission to build a half-track tractor from RSO parts still available.
Depending on the source, between 1946 and 1948, 800 to 1000 of these were built. The shown example is one of the last and is normally exhibited at Technikmuseum Sinsheim

I always smile when I see 'schlepper' because schlep was a very common word in the New York City environs when I was young.
No doubt due to the large Jewish/Yiddish population. We'd say long schlep for distance, tough schlep for a difficult task or just schelp for boring work. I haven't heard it in other parts of the US. Is it used in other English speaking countries?

Possibly the most common part of a caption on strange German vehicles that interest me.

Really does look rather good there.
Might have to check out some of their books.

1.5 ton Chevy G506? I don't think they built wrecker versions so it might be post war conversion. Car looks like a 49-53 Buick Super.
