Prisoners at Stalag Luft VI, Stalag 357 and Stalag Luft III

    Below is a list of names of prisoners taken from my father's P.O.W. "Wartime Log." These prisoners were held at Stalag Luft VI, Stalag 357 and Stalag Luft III. I would be grateful for further information on any of these men. Regards, David.

    The following airman is the only one listed as a POW in the publication Footprints On The Sands Of Time - O. Clutton-Brock that matches the above......

    Op.Rouen

    Took off from Villiersfaux and shot up by Me109s and after the Observer baled out as ordered, the pilot crash-landed in a field probably south of Rouen, France. F/L. Hewson and Sgt. Kitto made their way to safety but LAC. Utteridge was later reported to have been captured.

    Benson, Alec. LAC. 28246. Welder. Born: Goodwood Park, S.A. 7/11/1915.


    Benson, David Bernard. WOFF. 402487. Born: Sydney, N.S.W. 29/10/1918.


    Benson, Arthur James. WOFF. DFM. 412364. Pilot. Born: Inverell, N.S.W. 29/5/1920.


    The first two were held by the Japanese, the third became a POW following the loss of Whitley BD 220; Place - Germany; Date - 14 June 1943

    His casualty file hasn't been digitised by the NAA as yet, but his pers file has - it shows him working as a Station Hand when he enlisted.

    Documents on his pers file place him in Stalag VI in 1943
