I've been researching the Quartermasters Services (QSC) of the 6th South African Armoured Division, attached to 11th Battalion. My grandfather, William James "Bill" Thomas (232979V), was a fuel truck driver from February 1943 to March 1946.

I've found information in his service record, war diaries from his Companies, and remembered anecdotes and stories from family members. I'm happy to share the documents I have should anyone be interested.

I'm searching for anyone who may know the men in the photograph below. My grandfather is among them. This picture was on the front of a Christmas card he sent home to his family in South Africa from Italy in 1945. I've included the photo as restored and colourised with an AI tool; therefore, it is not entirely accurate in representation.

    Michelle,

Welcome aboard. There are a number of threads here which can be id'd online using: "6th South African Armoured Division" site:ww2talk.com or drop the 'th'

This website entry for the division lists them as divisional troops: https://www.britishmilitaryhistory....6-South-African-Armoured-Division-1944-45.pdf The division only had two brigades, one being the 11th Armoured.

There are no threads here for QSC or in full. Not a great surprise though.

Have you tried? South African Military History Society - Title page and now you can easily search their site.

We have a very small number of South African members, who dip in irregularly.
