My Dad said that he was transported on the Queen Elizabeth to South Africa in june 1942 is there any way I can check this
FYI The Cunard - White Star Liner QUEEN ELIZABETH 1938 - 1972 So the QE was at South Africa in the time mentioned (June 1942).
Further confirmation from ConvoyWeb: QE departed Clyde 17 June to Freetown (25 Jun) to Suez (18 Jul) to Capetown (1 Aug). Doesn't show a stop at Simonstown/Capetown on the way out but I think this may just be an omission. Arnold Hague Ports database Tim
According to Alan Chanter - The Magnificent Queens - in WWTDB, she called at Freetown and Simonstown on the outward leg and Capetown and Rio on the leg to New York to pick up US troops

Dad was navy he always said that on the way out cape town did not want any matelot's on the return the captain refused to take them any further Thank you for the help
Hi John, Nothing for him on QUEEN ELIZABETH - this is probably due to her being exclusively employed on trooping at that time. All I have is a voyage on EMPRESS OF SCOTLAND in 1957 that you are probably aware of. Regards Hugh
