I would pay good money to see a running StuG, regardless of Ausf.

    We really should have gone to tankfest this year H;

Though I reckon that Polish Stug IV restoration really is something rather special. Who knows - we've had good luck with Poles at Beltring over the years ;).

A very recent Stug IV restoration - Poland this time:

Google Translate - Youtube Sztug IV
    YouTube - sturmgeschutzIVpl's Channel
    YouTube - sturmgeschutzIVpl's Channel

Spotted while mooching about on that nice Polish 'Discoverer' site:
Wnêtrze Stug IV - Ogólnopolski miesiêcznik ODKRYWCA
STUG IV Skar¿ysko Kamienna - Ogólnopolski miesiêcznik ODKRYWCA
There is more on this unit/museum's vehicle on there (Muzeum Broni Pancernej CSWL) - translates quite well.

Also a site from it's custodians logging the restoration of this Stug, they seem rightfully proud of it:
    Sturmgeschütz IV (7,5 cm StuK 40 L/48) Sd.kfz 167 - wydobycie i renowacja działa Stug IV z Grzegorzewa
    Google Translation of the above

Newly uploaded Video of that rather rare Polish Stug.:

Merged your post onto what's pretty much 'The Stug Thread'.

Seems as good a place as any then to mention this new title I received in an e-mail today from J.J. Fedorowicz Publishing.

The Sturmartillerie was established before outbreak of WWII as an integrative support arm of the infantry, which was far way from thorough mobility. Sturmgeschuetze - assault guns - turretless tanks armed with a 7.5 cm gun - should push forward the attack breaking any enemy resistance, destroying infantry guns, MG nests and bunkers. In the further course of the war the young service branch would have to stand the impetus of ever growing numbers of enemy tanks.
This book is the first of a series. Its purpose is to introduce this small, but remarkable service arm to the reader. Development and combat of of the first units in battery - scale and the later Sturmgeschütz battalions resp. brigades will be explained by photos, diagrams and colored artwork. The author turned his attention to the identification of Sturmartillerie units - markings and characteristics will be clarified wherever possible.
During his research the author relied only on sources found in German archives. Subjective recollections of veterans have been used to illustrate the nature of this service arm.
    Hardcover, 8" x 11", English text, 209 pages, 250 photographs, 40 color illustrations, 1 map, tables

Take a look at John Buckley's book on British armor in the Normandy campaign. He goes into some detail about the capabilities of German AFV's, including StuGs.

On Weverstraat in Oosterbeek last Sunday. Bit of a STuG 'then and now' with a beautifully positioned skip.

I seem to recall a post war West German Stug like vehicle based on the M48 but can't find any info on it now. Have I slipped my fan belt?

    EDIT:

I googled "Aberdeen Proving Ground West German" Images and found the one I saw but still can't find any more info on it

Any thoughts on what is going on in this picture?
They might be repairing it or they might be disabling it. Neither makes much sense to me though. Americans wouldn't have any use for a StuG and there seems to be easier ways to disable one than taking it apart.

I think the component on the ground behind the guy standing up might be a reduction gear from the end of the transaxle of the one on the left of the picture. Maybe they just want to repair it so they can play with it. No helmets or rifles to be seen so they must be pretty far back
