    Hi

Can anyone help with the "5 FF HQ" "S ... Sect." from 21/1/44 to 4/44 entry in the service record I have attached. The documents and papers are from my grandfathers service in the R.A.F in WW2.

    I don't know if this helps - https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/units/1801/raf-bahrain/

references to Bahrain & 40SP (Number 40 Staging Post)

I'm wondering if the "S ... Sect." reads as "Siop Sect." and is a clerk's mis-spelling of psyops.......

Also curious as to why the postings page reads 5FF whereas the other two images say 6FF - unless they are greeting cards sent between similar units (a tradition that lasted until recently around Xmas time for RAAF units)

I am sure I have seen FF being used to refer to RAF Field Force units - part of the RAF Regiment (then / now?) and comprising security personnel, signals etc

"Jean" on the Christmas card is my mum. Duncan is her dad and that's definitely 6 FF on there so that's a good point about 5 FF.

When I was a child he (Duncan) had a ham radio license callsign "GM3CAN" and a big aerial in his back garden so signals is maybe relevant.
