Hello, According to Major Noel Bell CO G Coy 8 Bn Rifle Brigade he met on 21 Dec 44 R Force HQ at Charleroi (Belgium) before heading to Dinant (River Meuse). His mission: to secure the road bridge at Dinant against 2. Pz-Div (Battle of the Bulge). Bell arriving on 22 Dec found R Force teams already mining the bridge and perhaps the mediaeval bridge on River Lesse South of Dinant. Do you have any idea which RE Reg was at Dinant before G Coy? Thanks, Robert
Hi Mike Have you heard of the above Company's being called anything else? Apart from one I can't seem to find any of the 1944 war diaries. Cheers Andy
My list is from the War Diary for R Force, 13 September 1944. It gives the location of the units on that date. It came up when I was looking for some 'mystery units' on D day. Use Search, type in R Force. After three pages of 'remembering this day' you will find the thread. I never had the War Diary myself. Mike
Thanks Mike-I pulled the the 1944 R Force war diary last week at Kew and although it looks uber interesting with maps etc it was one of the thickest files I have ever seen and easily over 1,000 pages. I suspect everything is in this file where as I was hoping the Engineer Coys would have their own diary covering 1944. Cheers Andy
