Been trying to decipher what formation signs, patches etc my grandfather would have worn on his uniform, as an RA man. I've worked out the RA service stripes (and rank), but wondered how to figure out what (if any?) formation patch he may have worn.

I've had a look at British Formation Signs and think the 4th AA Division is correct (he was posted to 437/62 Searchlight in Preston) as it was mentioned a few times in the 62SL Diaries.

He was transferred to 2nd Regiment Martime RA Bty in October 1941, before transferring to 1st Regiment Martime RA Bty in January 1945.

Would either of those have provided any form of badges or patches on his uniform? I have seen the RA & AA Fouled Anchor badges but would there have been any others?

The only pictures I have from his RA service show his Loyal Regiment cap badge (side cap) and the RA shoulder titles, Ubique collar badges and the RA badge on his dress hat. No signs of formation patches or service stripes, and sadly, no photos from his time as a DEMS gunner.

    TIA
