At 10 am this morning I was privileged to attend and lay a wreath at the burial of a Bomber Command Sgt Wilfred Lawson. Details were posted by fellow members earlier. Sgt Lawson was the ONLY RAF member of the crew who were RCAF crew. Sgt Carlson is now the only unaccounted person from the crew. According to a member of the volunteer group who excavated the crash site the body was found about a meter below the surface. The bomber having exploded before crashing scattering wreckage over a wide area. The service was conducted with due respect and dignity by the RAF Colour guard who were a credit to the RAF. A very moving ceremony followed before wreaths were placed. The headstone should now be in place as it was scheduled after the service. Photos of service booklet and some from before, during and after the service.
A very humbling experience for all attending and the RAF Guard were superb. It was a very fitting occassion for a Hero who died and was without a proper grave for so long. Many thanks to those members who provided information on the flight details and crash together with the POW Questionaires that were posted earlier on the subject
