As far as I can make out your grandfather was in the RAOC but attached to RASC units. This is quite usual. He would be a storekeeper who had the additional skill of boot repairer. In NW Europe he arrived in Normandy on the 14th July with 35 Corps Composite Company RASC. Despite the name this company was one of two such units with 30 Corps. One section (D) of a Composite Platoon in a Composite Company had three RAOC storeman, including one for ammunition. 30 Corps was on the right flank of 21 Army Group across Europe. Starting in Normandy it crossed the Seine at Vernon, advanced rapidly across northern France and into Belgium, then up to Arnhem. In 1945 it crossed the Rhine at Rees and advanced across northern Germany. Corps Companies RASC were typically ten miles behind the forward units. This may help you find more precise locations. Mike
