    Hi,
my Dad was posted to RAOC 65 Section 9/5/1941. Is anyone able to tell me where this section was located and what it did.

    Regards

Hi Paul and welcome. You have given few details but during the war, from at least late 1940, there was a detachment of 65 Section RAOC in Northern Ireland. Can you confirm if he was RAOC throughout the war or did he automatically transfer to the REME when that Corps formed in 1942. I recall the REME had a 65 Section Workshops in the middle east but Im not sure if that was formed during or after the war.
Can you provide his name and service number as those few details may enable a better search.
    Regards, John

My dads record shows no overseas postings but family say he was bombed by stukas and his friend was killed during the attack.
He was in Northern Ireland but I am not sure if it was a posting or hospital.

    Best Regards

If you haven't already done so - I would suggest obtaining his service records as they will tell you where he was, when and as part of what unit(s) - link - Request records of deceased service personnel - GOV.UK

There was a military presents in Northern Ireland for all the war years, partly to protect against possible German invasion via Southern Ireland (Eire) and also to provide naval and air protection for Atlantic convoys. All this would require large amounts of materials and supplies being moved around. There were obviously hospitals, but his service records will tell you if he ever spent time in one.

    Hi,
Dads service records give no details of ay hospitalisation. I have tried to get his medical records but they cannot be found.

    Looks like a dead end?

Many Thanks for taking the time to answer my post. If you have any other things I could try I would be grateful !

    Regards

    Paul

    Hi Paul

I dont see the address you speak of on the documents posted. There is also no hospitalisation shown on them either that I can see.
He joins up as RASC, gets promoted to L/Cpl but reverts at his own request. In Oct 1942 he transfers to REME, but in Feb 1943 is found medically unfit for military duty. It shows he was awarded the Defence Medal.

    Hi,
the address in Londonderry is in the home address section in the second document, not that easy to read. When he joined the army reserve he was fully fit (Royal Warwickshire trained Budbrooke Barracks) . His brothers and sisters all believed he was part of the BEF (which it appears he was not). I was hoping to track his movements around the UK but don't know how to proceed. Is it possible to find out any more details of 65 section in Londonderry?

    Regards
    Paul

The address is 22 Grove Place, Londonderry

My father was there at the same time, and eventually married my mum who was from Bishop Street (without) Londonderry in 1942.
He enlisted in 1939 into the Royal Warks, went to NI then was transferred to 182 Inf Bde, but they all moved together into the Essex area 1942/1943. They then moved down to SE England until 1945.

There intial phase in NI was under Plan W - Wikipedia

If you browse this web site - Second World War in Northern Ireland (created by member Clanky Pencil) there is more info about there time in NI
