Just started a new project (as if I haven't enough to do:rolleyes:)
I have started a new page on my website here.

I am putting info as to each workshop (in the middle east just for now) on here. Info has come from Craftsmen of the Army and then I will add any other info I find on this forum and from other sources as I find it.

Early days yet so come back in a month or so and it should be looking better.
    Any comments gratefully recieved. :poppy:

I am only new on the forum (1 week) and have been researching my Gt Uncle through his MSR. He served as a Capt with REME/IEME with MEF from 43 -45. I have followed the above link and subordinate links above and have a question. Excuse my lack of knowledge, but should my Gt Uncles MSR associate him with a particular workshop as he was posted in various locations, if so, how do I identify this on his MSR, if not, how do I identify his base camp if it wasn't a Workshop.. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I have a book called "craftsmen of the Army" which may help - give me a day or so and I will look through the MSR and see if I can help. a quick glance doesn't seem to bring anything to light.

PS, just noticed on the pdf, the first page starts with "contents", this is numbered page 1, looking down it looks like pages 11.12.13&14 are missing? it also looks like the document was placed on another sheet of paper with "reviewed printed on it?

Are these documents from historical disclosures? ie did you send off for his service record or were you in possession from another source?

Thanks, I checked all the libraries in my local area for the book you mentioned as well as other books as I am keen to learn more. The worst thing about living and working in Dublin is that there are great books about WW2 but they are all general in nature and never focussed of any specifics. I started a thread yesterday on the RAOC /REME subforum asking advice on additional reading material etc. Maybe you can take a look when you get time by clicking here. I got a £100 voucher for Amazon at Xmas thats burning a whole in my pocket:)

    Many Thanks
    Stephen

Can't find much in "craftsmen of the army" about any w/shops mentioned on your msr, but a general overview of IEME and RIASC at the bottom of page 246 (see attached) mentions "OFFICIAL HISTORY OF THE INDIAN ARMED FORCES IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1939 - 1945. Technical Services: Ordnance & IEME"

A copy can be found on this page 4th from bottom, pretty pricey but may help in your research.

BTW, how are you getting on with the photos? may have something on them that may help.

The photographs are currently 200 miles away in my cousins attic and I plan to go up next week and pick them up (I just havent had a chance with working commitment etc). Once I do this I will prioritize them and share them on the forum. I will continue to dig a bit deeper for additional info. Thanks for the pdf.

Also found this which may be of interest.

Scinde horse is mentioned near bottom of page 3 and 252nd Armoured Brigade Transport Company, RIASC top of page 4

This is interesting, for a start the list provided in your link are all under the heading PIAForce, however my Gt Uncles MSR only mentions MEF yet these were the companies he was attached to. Makes me wonder (in my ignorance) can a Brigade be split serving 2 forces. (maybe I missed something)

the date on that list is sept 1942, I think your uncle was with them a little later? 43/44?
