    Hi
I wonder if anyone can help me. I am researching a soldier who was called up into the RAOC in June 1942. From his service record it seems that he had been earmarked for training as a radio mechanic, as, after his posting to No.1 Training Battalion at Derby, for, I assume basic training on 20/03/1942, he was posted to No.4 Training Battalion, who I believe were at Portsmouth, from where he was attached to Southampton Technical Training Group for what I believe would have been his trade training.
    My questions are:
    1) Would he have had a 'standard' type of basic training - eg drill, PT, route marches, weapons training etc. or was RAOC more trade centred?
    2) When he was attached to Southampton TTG, where would this have been, (I have read of similar courses at Birmingham Polytechnic, so might his course have been run at a University or similar?
    3) What would the course have entailed and how long would it have been. His service record shows he was attached to the TTG for just over 4 months, would that be standard for this type of course?

    Thanks in anticipation

    Mike
