It's a long shot but does anyone know of any instructional material for loading RASC lorries. I'm looking at the work rate of pioneers, but having failed to find data or instructional material for them I'm guessing that RASC instructions for 3 or 6 ton lorries might state the number of men usually assigned for loading/unloading?

I have an RE manual somewhere which gives timing for various tasks (iirc mostly pioneering tasks such as road making, etc.). I am not near it right now. I'll see if it has the appropriate info later.

Sorry it doesn't have truck loading times.

Field Service Pocket Book Part 1 - Pamphlet No.7, Field Engineering, 1944.
Section 9. - Calculations of Men, Time and Tools Required For Certain Field Works
Has tasks 'that can be expected from average trained infantry working parties...'. Includes earthworks in different soils, sandbag filling, shovelling, wheelbarrowing, felling trees, minefield laying, etc.

Thank you for looking. Sorry about the delay. My son was born in the midle of this bit of research. Do you have anything on pioneers or Dock Operating Companies?

As with most things in life what is written down and what actually happens in the field could be 2 different things. My Dad was a driver in the RASC and war diaries record the loads picked up each day for delivery by each section, as an example from 1941

"A section and part of B section loaded on to 39 x 3 ton lorries 1500 gallons petrol, 6000 BT rations, 600 IT rations, and 18 ton of ammunition"

Loads varied due to need from troops to food to ammunition etc but calculations of loadings could be made if you have the raw material to work from and would show actual loadings.
