Hi I've come across the abbreviation RTC RE? Can anyone clarify? I know the RE is Royal Engineers but what is the RTC - something to do with trains I think, but am unsure. Any help would be appreciated Cheers Old Bill
Old Bill, RTC stands for Returned to Corps. (On the left side of the main page is a link to military abbreviations.) Wills, finally out did you on this one. Cheers
A very good publication - the aim being to explain to our US cousins how we manage to confuse ourselves so professionally. A very good appreciation: They have made a spelling mistake or two - eg: manoeuvre but I managed to work around that. Bill In what context is the No 10 Training Battalion RTC RE used? there was only No's 1 & 2 Railway Training Battalions at Longmoor & Derby respectivly Did the person go on to as RE Railway unit after training?
hi It just says in his notes (handwritten) - 10 training battalion RTC RE - this would be about 1940? So i've got the first bit a training battalion, and the last bit royal engineers Its the RTC thats the conundrum? I'm assuming it has something to do with the railway, as he was a railway man all his life. (Father in laws - father in law). OB
Could RTC be PTC as the Training Battalions carried out primary training, thus: No.10 Training Battalion, Primary Training Centre, Royal Engineers ? Unwieldy, but I'm happier with that than 'Regimental Training Centre'. Incidentally, No.10 Trg Bn only existed for the year May 1945 - May 1946 and was at Pangbourne.

Hi there no its definitely an "R" - RTC Its got No 10 Training Battalion R.T.C R.E. and is dated feb 1940. A mystery it seems:something train related - railway transport company,?
CAPTAIN LESLIE JACK NEWBERY CHANNING, Royal Engineers Could this be it? I think Wills win the prize for getting it first. Old Bill
I know this thread is old, but just came across it. No 10 Training Battalion RTC RE refers to No.10 Training Battalion No.2 Railway Training Centre Royal Engineers Derby Cheers Trevor
