Hi there, I'm new to the site. My mother has pictures of the memorial stone listing the fallen and also the individual grave of Dudley Butlin who was a dear friend to her father (also serving). Why are you looking for pictures? How are they to be used?
I wonder if you know lots about the burma war whether you could help me find out more about my grandfathers activities. He survived the war but didn't talk much about it.

Hello. I’m new to the site. I’m not entirely sure of what I need to do. I’m looking for information about my late Great uncle. Sidney Dixon private number 3607352. Died 20th of May 1944 in Burma Age 21

    Paula,

Sidney was killed at a place called Namsun in Burma. There is a thread on the forum all about the men of the 1st King's Liverpool.
    Here:

1st Bn The King's (Liverpool) Regiment, Chindits.

Post Sidney's details on that thread and I'm sure you will learn more.

Wondering if anyone can help me? My Great uncle is listed above, John Munro McGuire. Would anyone have a photo of his grave in Myanmar? Would love to know further info if anyway to find? My Grandfather died before I was born and I lost my father in January, so my information is severely limited.

    Thank you for your time.

    Michael

    Hi Michael,

It looks as though your great uncle might have been a POW to the Japanese. Hopefully other members can assist in clarifying that for you. It should be possible for you to acquire a photograph of his memorial by contacting Tony who runs this excellent website:

No worries Michael. It might be an idea to start your own thread with John's name and details in the title. That way it would attract more attention on the forum.

Here are his CWGC details for reference:

Sidney Dixon is mentioned in Jack Lindo's book, From Dingle to Delhi. He was in 82 Column and Lindo says the following,

"A very hairy incident took place at one stop that we made on the hilltop. One of our lads called Dixon (five feet nothing in his ammo boots) was cleaning his weapons, as we always tried to at every opportunity. He had taken the base plate from the bottom of one of his grenades, but had not removed the fuse (the detonator). He then, without thinking, took out the pin holding the striking lever. The fuse was activated and smoke poured out of the grenade. "Look out," shouted Dixon and kicked the grenade away. He, and we who were near, were very lucky as on on kicking the grenade the fuse, still burning, was dislodged. It could have been nasty, as a Mills grenade will cause a lot of damage at close quarters. (Dixon had but a few hours to live)".

It would appear that he was killed when his small party were attempting to cross a road and bumped into a Japanese column who were making their way towards the Blackpool Block.

    Hello Paul,
Did you manage to get any photos regarding Arthur Alfred White? He is my great uncle but there seems to be very little I can find about him other Han where he was when he died.
    Thank you

    Welcome to the forum James.

Steve (bamboo43) posted excellent advice above regarding Tony’s site:

    Cemeteries - asia war graves

If you’ve not already done so, it’s well worth contacting him regarding a photograph of your great uncle’s grave, and it appears he has completed his efforts at Thanbyuzayat. Tony was brilliant when I requested a photo of my cousin’s resting place.

Arthur is remembered here too but there are no photos yet, unfortunately:
