Hopefully screaming all the way to hell. I saw the church in Prague that the assassins were holed up in, very moving place.
"Thank God, now the sow has perished!" SS Colonel General Sepp Dietrich on the news of Heydrich's death Heydrich seems to have known how to make friends - A real winner of hearts...
Stefan (and all), if you wish to know more please search "Operation Anthropoid" within WW2 Talk (and beyond). The after effects still felt to this day. Extract below from "UNEARTHING CHURCHILL'S SECRET ARMY" by John Grehan and Martin Mace, published 2012 by Pen & Sword. Always remember, never forget, Jim.
Thanks Jim, interesting document. I forgot about an SOE summary I read in Scotland while staying at Arsaig House with Sarah Winnington-Ingram back in 2018 Stefan.
There are some problems finding the exact source for that Dietrich quote. Whether Dietrich said it or not, it certainly expresses what many in the Nazi hierarchy felt. Even in that company Heydrich stood out, not only for his inhumanity and political ruthlessness but for his arrogance and personal obnoxiousness. I am part Czech so I am very glad they got him, but I do think the price paid was too high. I don't fault SOE for that, I don't know how they could have predicted the massive scale of reprisals after Heydrich's death. Of course every action of SOE and the European resistance entailed the risk of reprisal.
Again and again you realise how truly terrible these people were and how other people suffered. The loss and casualties were terrible and for those that survived they have dragged the chains of loss for decades. Clouds and Wind, But No Rain
