Hi John, don't know if this is any help.
But in this tread post 14 I said, So it is possible that these sappers were with the REME workshops attached to 113 LAA regt RA. Which arrived in Belsen 18th April 1945.

But the the link that I gave is now broken so I can't confirm it.

Where does the REME & Belsen info come from?

If it's from family history then fair enough, but if you have any sort of documentation at all (photos, letters, a pay book etc) then it would be a great idea to scan what you have and add it to this thread so everyone can look for clues.

Otherwise I would presume that you would have to request his service file using the info you have (his full name) and wait for it's arrival to find out what unit he was with and take it from there.

His file might not refer to where he was at any given time, but once you know which unit he was with then you should be able to access their war diaries to hopefully place him at a given point.

Be warned though - from what I have seen on this site, it takes 8 to 12 months to receive a file.......

For background info (see reference to REME 3/4 way down page)

    BBC - WW2 People's War - 'Ich Habe Kranke!' (I Am Sick!)

" I write this on the eve of my grandfather's funeral. He was called Albert DOIGNIE and he was a REME Corporal attached to the 109th Heavy Artillery, RA. He too was at Belsen and he told me of some of the most appalling events there. He entered there on 15th April 1944 and remained there until he was sent home on leave, sick with dysentry, on the 18th May. "
