    The 2nd Bn, Gloucestershier Regiment was part of the 56th Infantry Brigade, 50th (Northumbrian) Division for the purposes of the D-Day landing on Gold Beach, being the follow-up brigade to the 231st Infantry Brigade on the right hand flank of the landing. It’s sister battalions were the 2nd Bn Essex Regiment and 2nd Bn South Wales Borderers. Apart from a detachment to the 7th Armoured Division of 2 days in mid-June 1944, the Brigade remained with 50 Div until early August, when it came under command of the 59th (Staffordshire) Div for a week or so and then to 49th (West Riding) Div for the duration.
