    You may have noticed...

On the top left of the Portal Page, we now have a random WW2 casualty that should change daily.
Click it, and you'll go to the CWGC entry (or click with your mouse wheel to open it in a new tab).

Nobody's going to be surprised that this is down to a lump of code Geoff501 bolted together and gave to us.
    Thanks Geoff!
(Will he ever tire of all this praise?)

It might take a bit more tweaking to get just right. Seems to work OK on the four main browsers; IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari - If anyone notices anything odd about the way it displays, give us a shout.

    Nice one.

What about running a daily thread about the servicemen featured where we flag up what we know about them when/where they died?

I'd kind of assumed that would have happened already.

    Great idea Geoff...

There is likely to be a proportional number of air crew pop up, so keeps those references handy!

...and thanks to Adam for including it on the forum

    Some lateral thinking applied.

It's a small world. When I was developing this, I noticed on my first test list that I generated was one of my research subjects at the time. The final version uses the year number to seed the random selection generator, for each year list, so he was not in the final working list. I had around 100 WW1 researchees at the time, statistics is not my best subject but I think the odds of one of my men popping up somewhere over a year is only around 1 in 30. Be prepared to be surprised at what pops up. Any statisticians out there?
