    Hi,

Thanks for sharing the Lincs documents.

Having looked at the service records (B102) in Mike’s gallery his great uncle actually left Bombay for South Africa in October 1943 - likely in the hope that the change of climate would help in his TB treatment. He spent 6 months there before returning to U.K. for his discharge.

Thanks Steve, I had not gone to Mike's gallery. Casualties from disease across all units were huge in the Far East, so it's not a surprise.

In October, the Battalion were in Chittagong. The writing in the war diary in October 1943, is illegible. This paragraph from the short history sums it up.

    Hi Mike,

Did your great uncle go to the Cumberland Sanatorium at Threlkeld for treatment when he returned to West Cumberland after his discharge?

My 18 year old uncle contracted TB in 1941 whilst serving in Merchant Navy and passed away at Threlkeld in February 1942 on the same day my grandmother received official notification that my father was “Missing In Action” in the Western Desert (Egypt) - actually Antelat, Libya, 23rd December 1941.

    Hi Steve

I'm afraid I don't know that Steve sorry he could have also gone to Leicester as that is where his wife was from when he was discharged home.
