I'm having problems finding somewhere that I can buy a Remembrance Cross here in Australia.

Does anyone have any suggestions where I can possibly purchase, with a reasonable amount of postage - one place in the UK had exactly what I was after, but they wanted a ridiculous GBP25/AUD40 to post it to me.o_O

    TIA

Try eBay or your local British legion

It's the Returned and Services League (RSL) in Oz.
They may have them, but to be honest, I've never seen one out there.
For what it's worth, I've emailed the main RSL email address to see if they have them and I can post their response for Reid when received.
How soon do you need it/them?

EDIT: Ah! They do seem to have them, white painted - see here: Remembrance Day
so you should be able to contact your local RSL Branch to get them.

Brilliant Kevin!! I must have missed these - been looking for what feels like forever.
Thanks - I need for Remembrance Day, so if my local doesn't have them, hopefully, the main branch can send out.

    Cheers,
    Nanette

I get mine from the Royal British Legion website at £2.50 each

... and what's the postage to Oz?
If Nanette now knows she can get them in Australia from the RSL - job done!

Still waiting for a response from the RSL - I wasn't able to get through on the phone, so I had to email them, so we'll see how that goes. They had them on the link you posted Kevin, but nada in their store nor are they mentioned anywhere else when I searched - here's hoping they do offer them.

I also contacted the BL - their Online Chat is not the greatest, seems they have a glitch, so I ended up emailing them as well for a postage price. If memory serves me correctly, they were the ones who quoted me GBP25 to post internationally last week when I was attempting to find. However, when I looked again last night, no postal charges popped up except for the UK - you actually go through the whole order process without being aware of the total cost.:omg: Perhaps they're in the process of changing . . . :D

Shall update if/when/regardless a response comes through from either - fingers crossed it will be positive from both of them.:):)

    Nanette,
If you are still having trouble PM me with your address and how many you need and I will send you them courtesy of my RBL Branch.
A small donation to RBL and/or WW2Talk will cover costs.

If you plan to visit Europe you can buy the crosses at museums at visitor centres - Thiepval - Flanders Fields etc.

But why not support the RSL ladies knitted poppy initiative?
I took a group to Bullecourt in April and one lady from Nannup WA brought knitted poppies which we put on the graves and memorials of their war dead. You can see them here.

How about fixing one of these onto a home made cross? .

Is this your grandfather, as he seems the only George William, but other details differ
COWELL, GEORGE WILLIAM. Rank: Gunner. Service No: 800631. Date of Death: 04/08/1945.
Regiment/Service: Royal Artillery 18 Field Regt.
Grave Reference: Mil. Sec. Grave 351. Cemetery: JOHANNESBURG (WEST PARK) CEMETERY

I don't know where in Oz you are, but stepson is in Melbourne and I've asked if he can help with RSL for you.

    Hi, Kevin.

No that isn't him - but thanks for looking!
I'm in Adelaide, still waiting to hear back from the RSL, hopefully, this week if I'm lucky. :)

That's actually a great idea! I'll have to check on this - as each state RSL branch has a different site (and vastly different information) I'll have to have a look at where I can get them; never seen in South Australia!

Nanette, I will be popping into the Branch Office this afternoon (I am Branch Secretary).
Just in case you want the crosses how many are you looking for?

Oh, thanks for checking in Mike - I was actually only after a couple. :)
