Replica Side Hats

    Just wondering if anyone knows someone who makes Side hats?

    Trying to find someone who sells them or makes them

    Any help?

    There is a "Side Hats of the British Military' group on facebook run by someone who makes replicas to order...

    Sean Foster and his wife in the States make repro headgear, I think including coloured FS caps, I think its been a bit of a sideline for a bit so cant guarantee he is taking orders

    Always thought those must be amongst the most pointless military headgear ever produced.

    I never wore one during my period of RAF service because the forage cap had ceased to be uniform issue.

    Although not part of the recognised uniform many continued to wear them and were never charged with being incorrectly dressed.Indeed a number of my contemporaries obtained them and wore them while at work and were never challenged.

    Did you find the same during your service?

    The main function of the forage cap was that it provided weather head protection when the side tabs were pulled down and joined under the chin.Although I have never seen this with RAF personnel during my time,I have seen evidence of wearing the forage cap in this mode on wartime German and Soviet military personnel..abundant examples of POWs can seen making the best of the forage cap.
