Dear All, Currently i'm working on a very large temporary exibition to celibrate the 75th year of liberation, for the south parts of Holland. Are there people that have pictures / video / audio of operation Ascot & nutcracker. All Welch / 51th Highland / 15th scottish / 11th armoured / 79th armoured / 4th armoured brigade during that period is welcome. And, is there are website with a search method for searching personal numbers. I have several personal items that are numbered but that i can not locate. All help is more then appeciated. Who is willing to help ? All best, Niels ( Holland )
Hello Niels http://www.corpsofmilitarypolice.org/tools/armynumber Army Number Block Allocations regards Clive
Thank you, could this be refined to a divisional level ? What division where they attached to at the time ? I said above Ascot and Nutcracker, the main action was called Mallard i believe.
51st HD's role: The overall plan was to push the Germans back over the River Mass and 51st Highland Division's role was to attack the Germans on the line Weert - Roermond and swing north east driving the enemy up to Venlo. I thought Mallard was regarding Walcheren operations?
Hello Niels perhaps if you posted the service numbers other forum members might be able to add information regards Clive
No, Mallard has for sure to do with the Maas river to Roermond and Venlo. The divisions mentioned above where involved. I could write the service numbers down, but due to the large extent of my collection this would mean more then a month full time work hahah... I have been collecting for quit a few years now
I have an account of the European campaign (May 44 to May 45) written by the CO of the 1st Bn The Black Watch (51HD) if its of any interest. Its a sort of unit War Diary containing personal observations.
Hi Niels, You might want to get in touch with this place: Oorlog In De Peel – Stichting oorlog in de Peel It's basically a guy who has created his own museum at the back of his house just outside Melderslo. The area was liberated by 15SD and he has photos and information about this. I visited a couple of years ago and he was really helpful and enthusiastic. Regarding operation names, in Monty's Men (John Buckley), it states that Operation Mallard was launched on 14 November and Nutcracker on 19 November. However, as already stated, there was also an Operation Mallard a couple of weeks earlier in the Scheldt area (just to confuse things further, there was also an Operation Mallard on D-Day!). The attack on Blerick was designated Operation Guidford. Shaun
Well shaun, thanks for the feedback, but i have the entire coverage, but im looking more into a detailed level. Personal information and photos, documents. I know there are audio files and videos taken the 14th of November 1944 with ascot. Iwm has them but charches a ridiculous price for them... maybe someone has something in that region.
