    Hello guys

Last year I found this extinguisher. It's dated 1936, but there's a marking engraved.

It's marked RHQ A2... This extinguisher is found in Furnes in 2016. Do you know to which unit it belonged, or can you tell more about this marking? (first 2 pictures)

I also have a lot of pyrene extinguishers that are dated 1938-39 and WD marked, with an additional marking AQ 8 or AQ9. Is this a unit marking? (latest picture)

    thanx a lot

RHQ A2 probably stands for Regimental Headquarters with the A2 being a serial number for allocation.
    Just a well educated guess.

The first one looks very much to be a Royal Artillery marking. They had a standard form of vehicle tactical marking and 'A2' fell within the Regimental HQ Section.

It was allocated to the 15 cwt truck used by the RSM. Presumably a Morris-Commercial CS 8 or a Bedford MW. If the extinguisher was issued new with the vehicle and hadn't been swapped, a Morris is more likely as they were in use during 1936. Unless there are other markings, it will not be possible to ascertain which Regiment it related to.

The marking on the neck of the second extiguisher looks more like a manufacturer's mark to me. The British Army at that time don't seem to have used a 'zero' prefix for numbers smaller than 10 and the way that the impression has been rolled around the casting, it doesn't look as if they were stamped on with individual punches.

I said possibly artillery to Tommy4 in a email earlier today before advising he should ask on here.
