Ridley Scott may be currently gearing up for his Getty kidnapping drama, but he’s also got his eye on another historical pic that he’s keen to add to his list of credits. The Brit director is planning to helm a project for 20th Century Fox based on the epic Battle of Britain, one of the most decisive battles in World War II history that saw the courageous British underdogs overcome Nazi titans. Can we, once and for all, dispense with the idea that the RAF were the underdogs during the Battle of Britain. They had many advantages that the Germans simply did not enjoy and they had a lot of aircraft and pilots to throw at the challenge. The RAF are right to celebrate their achievement - preventing an invasion of the UK was a brilliant achievement, but we should stamp on the idea that the Germans were more numerous and had all the advantages. my usual comment is that at least it keeps that era in the news. If we are concerned that it could be a historic dodo there are enough people out there/on here who could make contact and advise.
Sounds interesting, but the omens donlt look good... This Longest day 1961(?) = documentary drama based on Cornelius Ryan's Longest Day shows mulit national perspective of D Day Saving Private Ryan 199X(?) = Stephen Spielbrg fiction with an implausible plot based on US D Day myth. Attempt to film Bomber by Len Deighton becomes Mephis Belle (American and happy ending) The Cruel Sea = masterpiece U571 = pile of poo.. So what will the 2020 Battle of Britian Look like? The story of the eagle squadrons? Billy Fiske and Bob Doe beat the Bosche?
Surely it starts on the Franco Belgian Border with a dash to the river Dyle and a massive falling out with our allies.
