I have just received an advertising email from Naval & Military Press, Military History, WWI & World War II Books and thought some members may be interested.

HISTORIES OF THE ROYAL REGIMENT OF ARTILLERY
    The New Series

Supplying the Army's firepower, THE ROYAL ARTILLERY'S contribution is vital on the battlefield. The Royal Regiment of Artillery, also known as “The Gunners” has produced some wonderful hardback regimental histories over the years, in fact the price quoted on rare book dealers lists for these histories is as high as £100 per volume!
But, of course, as customers of the Naval and Military Press you don't have to frequent the over priced shelves and websites of second-hand book dealers to obtain these and many more regimentals at realistic prices.
HISTORIES OF THE ROYAL REGIMENT OF ARTILLERY
    published by the RA Institution

    THE WESTERN FRONT 1914-18

The part played by the artillery in the fighting on the Western Front, described on a year by year basis. Numerous annexes with details on personalities, organisations, command and control, orders of battle, developments in the science of gunnery and much more.

THE FORGOTTEN FRONTS AND THE HOME BASE 1914 - 1919

The story of the part played by the artillery on all fronts during the Great War, other than the Western front, and in the defense of the UK. It includes artillery from all over the Empire.
    £25.00

    ANTI-AIRCRAFT ARTILLERY 1914-55

An account of the appearance, development, growth and success of a form of artillery the like of which had not been seen before 1914 in the Royal Artillery.
    £25.00

    BETWEEN THE WARS 1919-1939

The story of the Royal Artillery between the wars, mainly the product of the memories of many officers who served during the period. Theatres of active service operations included Russia, Persia, Palestine and the North West Frontier.
    £25.00

    THE YEARS OF DEFEAT 1939-41

Covers the campaigns in Norway, France, N Africa, E Africa, Crete, Greece, and the defense of Gibraltar, Malta and the homeland (Battle of Britain).
    £25.00

    THE FAR EAST THEATRE 1941-46

Concerned with the Regiment’s part in the war against Japan, with the early defeats and with eventual victory.
    £25.00

Fascinating thread, I have 121 field/medium regiment history. Does anyone know of a history of 4th field regiment? A member on here is getting me the war diaries for them at the time of the Alamein battles, just wondered if any history books were available for 4th field at the time of Alamein?

    Hello,

Does anyone know of any books about the 12th Field and/or 17th Medium?

Apologies if this question has already been asked, I don't have time to scroll through all of the pages!

Is your collection entirely focussed on units and subunts that served in NW Europe or does it extend to those who served in Italy? I am particularly interested in those that served in Italy.

Does anyone know if there is a history of 55th (Suffolk and Norfolk Yeomanry) Anti-Tank Regt., R. A. (T.A.), (49th Division)? They were in the Netherlands in 1945.

Failing that, is there a war diary I should try to see?

Perfect! Just what I wanted! It always amazes me how an expert on this forum nearly always comes up with the answer. I am researching Major Arthur Guinness (Viscount Elveden), and it turns out he was killed by a flying bomb on 8th February, 1945.

Thanks very much, Philip. Where does that information come from, if not from Kew?

Where is the war diary itself? I understood, from the previous post, that the diary for that period was not at the National Archives at Kew.

I have quite a lot about him. He was heir to the Guinness title (would have become Earl of Iveagh) and fortune. It seems likely that, although the war diary refers to a 'flying bomb', it was actually a V2 rocket which malfunctioned and fell short.

In the history of 49th Div. by Patrick Delaforce, ("The Polar Bears"), there is mention of a book:

"Loyal Suffolk Hussars. 55 A/T Regt. R.A.", by Lt. Col. Brian Gooch. It isn't in the British Library and I can't find it on e-Bay or Abebooks. Does anyone have a copy, or know where there is one?
